Triple Berry Smoothie

Triple Berry Smoothie

It’s Smoothie Tyme! It’s that time of year. The weather is warming up. Fresh produce is overflowing. And diet culture begins to go into overdrive. Disclaimer: this is a pro love your body no matter its shape or size community. Regardless of your reason, this Triple Berry Smoothie is a great way to start the day or have as your mid-day lunch or snack.

Smoothies are consumed year round in this kitchen. A big shout out to freezing fruits & vegetables all the time so you can enjoy them whenever the mood strikes. But, if I’m being honest there are two reasons I was motivated to post a smoothie recipe today. First, I got a ton of requests for it on Instagram. You’ve got to give the people what they ask for! Second, and probably more importantly, Julian Edelman. I’m hoping you know who that is, but just in case he is one of the greatest New England Patriots football players EVER! He retired this week after 12 years of relentless dedication & determination. All the tributes & flashbacks got me thinking about how we pursue our dreams. What we give, what we sacrifice, how we show up.

I know, you’re thinking what the heck does this have to do with a smoothie recipe. Hear me out! Jules was an earlier adopter of social media & had a lot of fun producing content that brought you closer in to the football experience & his personality, which 10 years ago you just didn’t see. Smoothie Tyme was introduced & so was my love & respect for Julian. IYKYK!

Prep Time5 minutes
Course: Breakfast, Lunch
Keyword: berry, smoothie, vegan, vegetarian
Servings: 2

Ingredients

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1/3 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 1/3 cup fresh or frozen raspberries
  • 2/3 cup fresh or frozen strawberries
  • 2-3 florets frozen cauliflower
  • 1 tbsp hemp seeds
  • 1 tbsp vanilla protein powder optional
  • ice & water to thicken
  • optional: date or sweetener of choice to taste

Instructions

  • Place all ingredients except water in a blender. Blend on high, streaming in water as needed to reach desired consistency. You may need to stop the blender to scrape down the sides.
  • Pour in your favorite container & garnish with additional fresh berries or mint.

Notes

Use a mix of your favorite berries.  Fresh or frozen will work.  Frozen berries will give the smoothie a thicker consistency which I prefer, but completely up to you.
Protein powder is optional.  I tend to have these smoothies as my lunch post-workout so the protein works great for me.  If you do not have any or would like to omit, you can either increase the amount of hemp seeds to get more protein, add some nut butter or you could add flax or chia seeds.  I would also add a dash of vanilla extract to aid in flavor profile.
What liquid should I use?  Are you monitoring calories for weight loss or weigh gain?  If you are looking to fuel weight gain you may want to add a dairy-free milk instead of water.  If not, water works great.  Use the amount you need to get your smoothie as thick or thin as you prefer.
Serving size:  This makes either one large smoothie or 2 small.  I will freeze a second one & then use as a quick meal later on.  Simply pop it on the counter about 30 minutes before consuming.
Grab a straw & enjoy!
